BIG DEBBIE PRODUCTIONS

From cassette culture to videofeedback

Born in USSR in the early 1980's, I discovered Western pop music and Soviet new wave first through my father. Who, as a navy officer, had access to smuggled media and an underground distribution network. This and the time spent in San Francisco's punk / noise scene (from 2000-2012) continues to shape and influence, what is known as Big Debbie.
Originally it started as a bedroom, 4 Track cassette recording - titled Little Debbie. Soon after, I relocated to Los Angeles, a handful of releases and international tours followed. Currently this performance / recording experiment has evolved into a multimedia team, Ursula Yashenko and visual artist Karo Yagjian. By combining music with neon collages, crude stop motion animation, camera feedback, and analog video effects, Big Debbie Productions weaves visual spells of a rhythmic state.
